Hartford York. Produced in a limited edition, this fedora comes to us from Ecuador, by way of Borsalino in Italy. Comfortably lightweight for summer wear, these hats are woven by hand, requiring several hundred hours by a number of skilled of artisans. The result is spectacular and only available here. Borsalino also brings us
The Mazzini, one of the most beautiful hats that I've seen in the past decade. Expertly crafted from braided abaca, the open weave makes it a cool summer hat, and the two-tone construction is quite appealing.
For something very different from
Borsalino,
The Raffia Stingy Brim is certainly a hat to consider. Made of a fine mesh covered raffia body, the 1 1/2 inch brim is in sisal. Use the zoom feature under the hat image to see a narrow strip of yellow and green at the bottom of the hat band as well as the wooden Borsalino badge. That same zoom feature can be used to examine the band on the
Panama fedora called
The Fantasy Band, where you'll see that the grosgrain band on this classic hat features a dark tinged edge which is really striking.
Another designer offering men's hats and caps
exclusive to Hartford York is
Eugenia Kim of New York. The Mr. Kim line of
stingy brim hats includes a toyo fedora called
The Camel Craig, which features an ikat triple pleated band with vintage cat pin.
The Charcoal Craig is another
Mr. Kim hat, this one in two tones, its trim a distressed leather belting with antique brass buckle. More exclusivity is offered with the Mr. Kim
caps too, such as
The Khaki Jimmy, a seven panel
driver cap in a multi-color plaid khaki linen fabric with a double snap front and cotton lining.
Even more exclusive warm weather
hats for men are courtesy of my friend,
Anthony Peto, of Paris. Brand new for Spring/Summer 2012 is a
newsboy cap called
The Linen Lennon, a toothy 100% Irish linen cap with a twelve-inch diameter crown. The brim is stitched down across the front and the fit is grand. Something new and different from Peto is
The Tweedledee, a rich and substantial
linen cap with a little pip at the top, which I guess, is the "dee".
Anthony Peto has brought back a few favorites this season, starting with
The St. Michele, a lightweight
Panama stingy brim with narrow contrast brim, as well as two five-star lids: a stingy brim
trilby in 100% crisp linen, and a fine and very full
newsboy cap (also in linen) called
La Louvre.
Quality
